The Basic Kinesiology Programme™ (BKP) provides students with powerful Kinesiology techniques and protocols needed to qualify and set up practice as a certified Kinesiology practitioner.
Completing this course is the first step towards an exciting career in Kinesiology.
In this program students learn the necessary skills that all Kinesiologists need: how to take care of their own energy, how to muscle test, the energy pathways and body systems, how to evaluate and balance energy and record results, how to recognize instinctual behaviors, Anatomy & Physiology, safety in the clinic and the basic business skills needed to run a clinic.
Overview
The Basic Kinesiology Program (BKP) represent the core of the ICPKP program, and includes the first 10 courses required for both diploma programs.
Each module comprises approximately 50 hours of training.
This involves 20 hours of classroom learning with an ICPKP Faculty Member to cover theory and practical application. Student then complete self-directed learning outside of the classroom using the Student Assessment Journal provided them with each module.
Each Assessment Journal takes about 25 - 30 hours, which requires the student to practice their newly acquired skills several times. This assists the student to gain valuable experience and confidence while obtaining the knowledge required.
BKP 101 - 110 will provide you with a rock solid foundation in Kinesiology on which you can build and expand with additional skills as needed to become a successful practitioner. The workshops are designed to be fun, easy, and progressively add to your skills.
- First, you learn self-help energizers, and how to take care of yourself. Then you learn how to muscle test a person. The skills include many reflexes to stimulate the function of muscles; the indicator muscles of the 14 meridians; the principles of acupuncture meridian therapy.
- You learn various balancing techniques such as Time of Day, an 8 muscle yin balance, a 14 muscle wheel balance, a 5-element one point balance, a color balance, a sound balance, and a nutritional balance.
- You learn the basics about the skeleton, the anatomical names and a summary of the organs of the body. They learn many pain reduction techniques, different eating regimes: food combining, food rotation, eating by the 5-element food colors table.
- You learn active listening using emotions and how to work to a Kinesiology balancing protocol with a goal, using fingermodes. They learn some advanced muscle techniques, posture analysis and the principles and ethics of client relationships.
The BKP program will take at least 12 months to complete and provides over 550 hours of professional training of professional training. This qualifies you as a Level 2 Energy Kinesiologist with the Energy Kinesiology Association.
Detailed BKP Course Curriculum
1. Energisers and Self Testing BKP 1.101
The first unit is all about teaching students how to take care of and balance themselves. After all the practitioner must stay healthy in body and mind to be able to help others. These techniques can also be used to teach clients some basic skills they can use at home to help themselves between consultations.
Defines kinesiology and anatomical parts of the body. Develops basic self-care skills using meridian trace, energy reflex points (Neuro-Emotional, Neuro-Lymphatic, and Neuro-Vascular), body testing, walking gaits, simple emotional stress release, emotional trigger words, crosscrawl for self integration,, auricular energy and visual inhibition techniques, goals and a ‘time of day’ balance for self care. (Prerequisite - none) (TFH 4 may request RPL status)
2. Manual Muscle Testing BKP 1.102
This unit introduces muscle testing, which is the basis of Kinesiology. Students learn to balance other people, using brain/muscle feedback to identify dysfunctions and stress.
People completing this unit will be able to use muscle testing accurately, and perform a Kinesiology energy balance on others. They will be able to do Accurate muscle testing, use evaluation procedures, facilitation/inhibition, dehydration, ionisation, neurological disorganisation, CV integrity and thymus energy, orgin/insertion and spindle/golgi techniques, bones of the skeleton and an energy balance for others. (Prerequisite - BKP 101) (TFH 4 may request RPL status)
3. 5 Element Introduction - Yin Balance BKP 1.103
The introduction of Chinese philosophies to balance the energy using colour, sound and the emotions. This unit teaches techniques to correct and confirm the changes of a 5 Element balance and using food to strengthen muscles and meridians.
This includes four individual balancing protocols including two yin balances, a color and a sound balance, food, emotional and vertebral balancing techniques, circuit locating, the challenge. the 5-Element eight muscle energy balance, priority balance procedure. (Prerequisite - BKP 102) (TFH 4 may request RPL status)
4. Kinesiology and Superficial Connections BKP 1.104
This unit introduces an understanding of the philosophy, principles and history of Kinesiology; to extend the understanding of meridians and their related organ systems and to develop proficiency in a 14 muscle wheel energy balance. Using the direction of energy flow the students learn how to balance the meridians and their related muscles and organs. Students also learn basic Anatomy and Physiology.
Students learn an understanding of meridians and their related organ systems , 14 muscle goal balance, surrogates, More and Priority modes, body movements in anatomical terms, create a simple record of a client balance. (Prerequisite - BKP 103) (TFH 4 may request RPL status)
5. 5 Elements - indepth BKP 1.105
This unit extends the understanding of, and skill in using, the 5-Element principles and 5-Element emotions for energy balancing. Students learn the 5 Element principles in depth and working with the full chart of emotions takes students to a whole new level of knowledge. An extra 14 muscles allows students a greater variety of ways to balance the client. Students also learn how to find one single correction to return the person to balance.
Techniques included 5-Element principles in depth, 5-Element emotions, alarm points, luo points, AHPs, alternative indicator muscle tests, surface anatomy and recognize the muscles’ action in sport and exercise, yin/yang principles to perform a 5-Element one-point goal balance. (Prerequisite - BKP 104)
6. Professional Skills Balancing Protocol with PKP Database BKP 1.106
This unit develops skill and understanding in the use of basic professional Kinesiology techniques. In this unit students learn how to put it all together using the specialized protocols that set PKP Kinesiology ahead of the rest. Students learn how to use finger modes and go back to balance stressful times in the past that affect us today.
Techniques included Effective listening skills to establish client rapport, use finger modes, Professional Kinesiology Practioners’ database concept, simplified PKP protocol, age recession. (Prerequisite - BKP 105)
7. Pain Reduction BKP 1.107
This unit teaches students to evaluate and reduce pain using a number of simple but powerful techniques. This unit is a favorite with most students.
Students learn how to evaluate pain levels, use emotional and postural stress release, meridian flow adjustment, muscle energy techniques, cross crawl exercise, figure-8s, marine spiral energy and food or supplements to reduce physical pain. (Prerequisite - BKP 106)
8. History / Balancing with Food BKP 1.108
Focusing on nutrition this unit teaches an understanding of why the body requires a variety of nutrients and how the body uses these nutrients. We also look at a number of ‘diets’ and how to test the person to see if they may react to foods.
It develops an understanding of the chain of life, the six stages of nutrition, food combining; the concept of biogenic, biostatic, biocidic substances; to construct a diet using 5-Element, food family and food rotation principles; to develop skill in using C1 and ear acu-point sensitivity tests.
This unit also extends an understanding of the development (philosophy and principles) of Kinesiology. (Prerequisite - BKP 107)
9. Advanced muscle techniques Reactivity and posture BKP 1.109
This unit students start to learn the first of the advanced techniques where messages from the brain are confused causing reoccurring problems.
This unit develops skill and understanding in correcting reactivity in muscles and meridians with (and without) circuit retaining or reactive modes. To develop skill in observing postural imbalance; to extend techniques in balancing energy in muscles. Muscle facilitation and inhibition, muscle and meridian reactivity, posture, muscle stretch response, sustained muscle use, hidden muscle failure, specific circuit and contralateral spindle techniques. (Prerequisite - BKP 108)
10. Client Health Records and Professional Relationships BKP 1.110
This unit sets out the requirements and responsibilities all practitioners need to be aware of and fulfill. Here students ‘put it all together’ into a complete package to now become a Professional practitioner.
Student learns to establish, utilize and update a client health record. Describe professional health care relationships, set clear boundaries and communicate with both individuals and groups in a professional manner; establish personal ethical behavior and respect client's rights in a health care context. apply client history to establish desired outcomes, maintain client rapport, facilitate client towards self-responsibility model, keep clinical records, make necessary referrals. (Prerequisite - BKP 109)
Additional College Specific Requirements.
In order to ensure that our graduates are safe and effective practitioners ICOHA insists that all students must also complete the following before they are allowed to graduate the program.
Practice and Polish Weekends
These are practical skills sessions of open practice and several mini-seminars to polish and expand on your existing skills. They are open to all students and alumni of ICOHA and other kinesiology practitioners as well. These are an ongoing Continuing Education offering at this college. BKP students will be required to attend 2 of these before they can graduate the program.
Upon completing of the above units all students undertake a final assessment at the college. This includes Oral Boards and a Practical exam.
