What's the difference between Community Education and Continuing Education?
Community education is designed simply to enlighten the community about any subject and expand their intellectual horizons about a topic. There is no minimum education standard for design, implementation or evaluation of the learning. Most of these programs are offered at a basic or introductory educational level to allow for more people to attend. There is no evaluation of the learning process. Although some of these programs may meet or exceed Continuing Education or college level programs there is no way to ensure that and there is no consistency.
Continuing Education is designed for professionals who are required to stay current in their fields. The educational level is usually higher and the design and implementation are evaluated to ensure material is delivered in an appropriate format. Classes must be posted in advance to allow the Continuing Education agency issuing the credit the right to audit any course to ensure the class is being taught to a professional standard. These course are typically taught to a higher level than community education classes because most people have had prior specialized training before taking this course.
Do all of your workshops offer CE (CE, CEU, CPE, etc.) Credits?
Not all of them. Some workshops will be taught as community education classes and some specifically at the request of a sponsoring agency. These workshops may not offer CE credits. Please check the class listing for each individual workshop before you sign up. If in doubt please contact this college to clarify before you sign up.
Will I be able to practice as a kinesiologist if I take TFH or a K-Power®?
Both TFH and K-Powers® are listed as either Community Education or Continuing Education courses. They are not designed as primary professional education, nor do they provide adequate instruction to allow you to set up a professional practice.
In the USA The Energy Kinesiology Association has set up minimum standards for entry level as 200 hours of training. Neither TFH nor K-Power® provide that much training.
Elsewhere in the world minimum standard for licensure is a college certificate.
We strongly encourage you to use these skills daily in your personal and profession lives to the fullest extent possible. However it is prudent to recognize that these course do not provide all the answers you may need to advertise &/or practice as a professional kinesiologist. But they are an excellent start in that direction. Both TFH & K-Power® course may be applied to the 200 hour requirement of the Energy Kinesiology Association.
Will I be able to use these skills after only a 2 day workshop?
Most definitely! Even the one day Stress Release Made Easy™ class provides very practical, powerful and useful skills that you can use that very same day. Each workshop has a limited focus to allow good exposure to the material covered to allow you a good tool belt of skills specific to the topic of the workshop.
Do I have to be a licensed professional to take any of these classes?
No. These classes can be taken by almost any adult who has the desire to learn.
I'm not a professional, will I be able to take this class and learn it or will it be over my head?
These classes are designed to be very easy and user friendly. Our instructors are specifically taught KISMIF (Keep It Simple, Make It Fun) They are fun and taught by hands-on experiential learning so everyone can understand this easy to use material. An ICOHA faculty member have even taught some of this material to kids and even to adults who don't speak the same language!
How are these workshops taught? What is the Educational Format?
Guided Experiential Learning - Students receive a brief introduction to material and observe a live demonstration of each particular technique or skill. Students then work with each other in small groups to experience and learn these new skills. Feedback circle and group discussion follow to maximize learning by drawing from others experiences as well.
Will I have to work with other people?
All of these workshops are taught as hands-on experiential learning. These skills can not be learned by reading a book or watching a movie. You may choose not to participate in the practical applications but that would greatly impair your ability to learn the material.
Do you offer these course online?
No. Kinesiology can not be taught using just books, DVD's or online resources. Kinesiology is a hands on skill that requires much complex psycho-motor skills and interpersonal skills to be used properly. These skills cannot be taught without direct hand-on human intervention.
- If you were in a car crash would you want the paramedic who responded to have real practical hands on experience or just books smarts and internet courses?
- When you got to the emergency room how comfortable would you feel if the Registered Nurse taking care of you admits that they only watched training videos and never actually touched a patient was treating you?
- NZQA rates the skill set of an kinesiologist as higher and more complex than either of these two professions. If you wouldn't accept it for them why would you ever accept it from a kinesiologist?
